The Ranking of the 10 Superhero Shows of 2015-2016

This season we had quite a bit of superhero shows, unfortunately at the time of this writing, I have not watched Preacher and it’s going in the summer season so here goes the list. I am ranking all 10 from worst to best from the fall of 2015 to the spring of 2016.

Warning this list will contain spoilers.

10. Heroes Reborn
Heroes season 1 will always be the best, as you can tell it was planned out and every twist seemed genuine.  As the show went on, it seemed they added twists just for the sake of twists. When the show got cancelled in season 4 on a cliffhanger, so when I heard the news we would get a new miniseries, I was happy that it would tie up loose ends…..which it did; however if you get rid of the last two minutes it would be good closure to the series but nope, wanted to tac on a teaser at the end for a potential next season. So while the season was enjoyable enough, it just didn’t reach the potential I wanted it to be. Still better then season 3 though.

9. Super Girl Season 1
Now I admit, I only watched the first half of the season, I still need to finish it. It was fun from what I watched; however the forced love triangle between Kara, James and her geeky friend just didn’t seem natural. She had good chemistry with James but the geeky guy just seemed annoying. Kat Grant was hilarious every time she was on screen and she stole the show. The episode that sold me on this was the episode she had lost her power and she talked down a robber, it was a great speech and it really showed what made Kara heroic.

8. Agents of Shield Season 3
If I have one major problem with this show it’s the pacing. Every season starts off well, the mid-season finale is intense and the season finales are spectacular, the problem is everything in between. Ward out stayed his welcome past season 2 and Bobbie and Hunter’s sendoff seemed forced for a spin off that got cancelled even before it aired. There were some positives though, Daisy’s development was done well and Coulson is always fun when he is on screen.

7. Agent Carter Season 2
This season I admit started off weak, it didn’t seem interesting and the pacing didn’t seem right. However mid-way through the season it picked up and it became a fun romp. The character Jarvis was always fun and the development he went with his wife was well handled and the final episode was just spectacular. Also Haley Atwell is amazing anytime she is on screen.

6. Jessica Jones Season 1
Now this was a great series, I think the pacing suffered a bit in the middle when she had Kilgrave in the cell, but other than that it was affine series. The main character Jessica did well handling what a person with PTSD but kept on trying to fight her demons of the past. Luke Cage was great as well and it helps me look forward to his series this fall. Even the secondary characters were great, like her neighbor Malcolm who started off as a drug addict and then became some Jessica could rely on.

5. Gotham Season 2
Now this show surprised me, the first season is mediocre to say the least however this season started off great and it kept up that quality throughout. I thought they would fumble with Freeze, but he was handled well and with the court of owls being set up makes me excited for things to come for the next season. As well, while everyone seemed to be serious in season one, it seems that this season they weren’t afraid to ramp up the camp. From Doctor Strange maniacal plot to Riddler’s cackling like a mad man, this season of Gotham shows you can improve a show despite how mediocre the beginning was.

4. Arrow Season 4
While not up to the quality of the first two seasons, it is better then what season 3 gave us. The main villain is Damian Dahrk, a character I’m not familiar with in the comics, but he provided to be entertaining. I feel compared to the third season where it just focused on Oliver and Felicity’s relationship and everyone was put on the back burner, this season gave other characters equal time to develop. While Oliver and Felicity’s relationship can be irksome sometimes, I thought it was annoying how they ended the relationship because she didn’t like that he kept a secrecy from her, his kid, that he just found out and was told not to anyone. The only other complaint is how Laurel AKA Black Canary died, but those two are minor compared to the rest of the season. Diggle finally getting his own costume and his brother’s storyline I thought was well done and showed him slowly going to a darker path. Thea, still struggling with her issues but she is slowly getting better.  Despite the complaints on how Laurel died, her death was actually well handled as the characters were praising her for the hero she is. Sure the finale was a little cheesy with inspiring hope, but it works. It’s always darkest before dawn.

3. Legends of Tomorrow Season 1
One part Doctor Who, One part Avengers, this show was truly crazy with its time traveling shenanigans and the characters it had in it. The only down side for me is lack of development of Hawkgirl (We get it, you were a barista) as she only seemed important to the plot because she was the one should kill savage. Other than that, each episode had its own charm and Savage was a really creepy kind of villain. Not scary, just a creep. The one character that really surprised me was Mic Rory AKA Heatwave. I didn’t think he would be interesting, but he ended up becoming a well-developed character that had great one liners. Stein also stole some scenes as well especially when he was geeking out about being in space. I could probably go on and on about how each character was great like Sarah and Ray, but everyone each served a purpose and it’s just a fun romp from start to finish.

2. Daredevil Season 2
Now this was a tough choice between this and the number 1 pick. This season of Daredevil was incredible, heck episode 3 alone with Matt and Frank having their philosophical debate on the roof alone made this season great. The only down side is the Hand’s plot is never really revealed and the giant hole was only visited once. It seemed kind of a big deal but maybe that will be something for the defenders or season 3. Every character bought their A game in this season, Frank, Elektra, and heck even Foggy seemed to give it their all and Matt’s continues to be torn from his dark and light side as both Frank and Elektra keep pulling him closer to the dark side. The Kingpin was a welcome sight, even if it was only for two or 3 episodes, the actor gave a great performance back in season 1 and he did not disappoint in his brief appearances here either. Also again back to episode 3 where he had the fight in the end with that gang was just freaking awesome especially with hand being duct taped to a chain and uses that to his advantage.

1. The Flash Season 2

This season was really good, it was a tough decision between this season and Daredevil’s but maybe I’m a little bit bias but Flash was always one of my top favorite superheroes, which is why this season had a slight edge.  This season was great with all of its twists and turns with Zoom as a great and vile villain. He isn’t afraid to be ruthless and his voice reminded me of the old school Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget. This show continues to prove that it is not afraid to be goofy alongside the serious storyline it has. Sure some of the science doesn’t make much sense but with it being almost aware that it doesn’t take itself to serious that it can be over looked. Cisco proves why he is the fan favorite as he has the best one liners. His development with his powers was also nice to see and that he is embracing what he will be as he is in the comics. One downside, Iris seems all over the place; maybe it just seems like the writers don’t know what to do with her until she ends up with Barry. Joe continues to be one of the best dad’s on television and the actor is always great on screen. I bet I can go on and on how great this season was but I covered quite a bit of what I enjoyed. Hopefully season 3 keeps up the steam and continues with great quality fun and excitement the last two had.
